Carter Lake Elementary School

Creating Promising Futures

Dual Language

Welcome to the Clover Park School District Dual Language Program!

About the Program

CPSD is dedicated to creating a dynamic, multicultural learning environment where students from Spanish and English-speaking backgrounds achieve bilingual proficiency and cultural appreciation. For the 2026-27 school year, incoming Carter Lake Elementary kindergarten students can participate in the Spanish World Language Immersion Program (WLI)

3 Core Goals

Bilingual & Biliterate

Students can read, write and speak in English and Spanish across all subjects.

Academic Achievement

Students achieve grade-level proficiency in BOTH English and Spanish across subjects.

Sociocultural Competence

Students make connections between the two languages and develop cross cultural skills in a multicultural environment.

The Spanish World Language Immersion (WLI) Program equips students with the skills to speak, read, and write in both languages, preparing them for a diverse and interconnected world. Starting in kindergarten, students spend 90% of their day learning in Spanish to facilitate early Spanish acquisition, with 10% of the day dedicated to English Language Development. Instruction in English gradually increases until students spend roughly half of their day learning in each language by Grade 4.
